I rolled my eyes as Denmark threw himself onto my bed, making small moaning noises whilst massaging his neck. I put my book down and ran a hand through his wild hair, causing him to look up at me through his bright blue eyes.

“What did you do to Norway this time?” I asked, smiling as the Dane wrapped his arms around me and rest his head on my shoulder.

“All I said was something about his bromance with his little magic club and he strangled me!” He cried, and I chuckled.

“Maybe if you stopped teasing him and wearing ties he wouldn’t be so aggressive towards you.” Denmark gasped at my words, pulling away.

“I am the King of Northern Europe! I am not the problem here!”

“You’re the King of Idiots, that’s for sure.”

“You wound me, you truly do.” Denmark mumbled, sitting against my head board with his arms folded. I chuckled and leant up, kissing his cheek.

“You know I’m only joking.” I murmured, and Denmark grinned, squeezing me tightly.

“I guessed, considering you wouldn’t be my BFF if what you said was true.” I snuggled up to Matthias and relaxed. He was always hyper around the Nordics, but around me he seemed to calm down more and become quieter. I had no idea why this was, but I was kind of glad. I loved the wild Matthias, but sometimes I just needed a break otherwise I’d get a headache, and that always put me in a mood.

“____?” I looked up at the country who had a teasing glint in his eye. “Like what you see?”

“You wish.” I teased, and I swore I saw his grin drop for a second. I just shook it off as nothing; after all, Matthias never let anything get him down for long.

“Anyway, I was just asking if you wanted to go somewhere tonight, you know, get away from everything.”

“I am not watching you drink yourself to a near-death experience.”

“I was not suggesting that.” I raised an eyebrow and Denmark bit his lip. “Okay, maybe I was.”

“Well, it’s not like I can stop you. I’ll come along to stop you doing stupid things.”

“WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!” He jumped up, did what was supposed to be a dance and raced out of my room, causing me to groan to myself. What had I got myself in for?

*Later that night*

“____, you’re the best girl I’ve ever laid eyes on.” I snorted softly, smiling at Matthias’s bright blue eyes looking up at me adoringly.

“You’re funny when you’re drunk.” I replied, running a hand through the country’s blonde hair. He frowned, resting his head in his hands.

“I’m not joking. You really are the best.” He mumbled, and I smiled at him.

“Well, thank you, I guess.” Matthias looked up at me, before leaning his head on my shoulder and kissing my cheek. “What are you doing?”

“I’m trying to flirt with you but it’s not working.”

“You can say that again.” I mumbled, taking the now empty beer glass out his hand. “Come on Matt, let’s get you back home. I think you’ve had enough.”

“YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH!” He declared, however he stood and followed me out of the pub with no further complaints. “Are we going in your car?”

“No, we are walking.” I replied, and Matthias stopped and gasped.

“What?! But it’s so far!”

“It’s just down the road.” I rolled my eyes, but Mathias clung to me to keep me from walking.

“Stop! A young lady such as yourself should not have to walk home from anywhere.”

“Well, we can’t drive because a, I didn’t bring the car, and b, I would not trust you to sit quietly in a car no matter what the distance is.” My friend just looked at me before a mischievous smirk appeared on his face. I frowned. “What are you plan- Ahhhh!”

I shrieked as Matthias lifted me up in his arms, before carrying on walking. I wrapped my arms around his neck, scared of falling.

What are you doing?” I asked, my voice shaky. Matthias just shushed me before holding me closer to his body, his arms protectively wrapped around me.

“I am carrying you home, of course! I am a gentleman after all.” I giggled and finally relaxed, getting used to the feeling of the country’s strong arms around my smaller body.

“You are far from a gentleman Matt, but thank you for the ride anyway.” His face lit up with a big smile, and for the rest of the way back home he chatted to me animatedly to me, and though he didn’t make much sense I still smiled and nodded, going along with whatever he was saying. He set me down just before we walked in the house, and before I opened the door I turned to face the Dane.

“Now Matthias, I need you to do something for me.” He nodded his head, and I leant up, kissing his cheek. “Be silent when you get ready for bed, okay? The other Nordics will be asleep, and unless you want to get strangled by Norway, you need to remain quiet.” Matthias nodded, miming zipping his mouth shut. I chuckled and opened the door, Matthias (for once) silently following me in.

“Okay, let’s get you in bed.” I whispered, leading Matthias up the stairs and away from anything breakable. I managed to manoeuvre him into his bed without much trouble, but as soon as I tried to leave Matthias started making a fuss.

“Matthias, please, you’ve been an angel until now, don’t ruin it.” I spoke to him as if I was speaking to a child, trying to pry his hands from my clothing.

“But I don’t want you to leave me!” Matthias whispered, looking up at me with teary eyes. “Please don’t, please!”

“Matthias, I will only be next door, you’ll see me in the morning.” I whispered, kneeling down so that my head was on the same level as his. I ran a hand through his hair, watching as he blinked sleepily at me.

“I don’t want you to leave… I-I need you.” He whispered, and he looked so vulnerable, so desperate, that I couldn’t say no.

“Alright, I won’t leave you.” I murmured, climbing into bed with him. The country’s face once again lit up and I chuckled as he carefully wrapped his arms around me. I snuggled up to his chest, allowing myself to get lost in the feeling of Matthias’s warm body. God, if only every night could be like this…

“____?”

“Mmm?”

“I have something to tell you.” I looked up at my friend, smiling when he ran a hand though my hair.

“Go for it.”

“I really love you.” I opened and closed my mouth, trying to see if what he was saying was some kind of joke. All I saw was love, affection and adoration.

“Try telling me that when you are sober, then I’ll believe you.” I replied, and Matthias deflated. I sighed and leant up, kissing his cheek. “If it means anything to you, I love you to.”

“Do you mean that?” He asked softly, leaning down so our foreheads touched. My smile widened and I nodded, feeling my heart hammering in my chest.

“Yes, yes I do. Matthias, ask me out when you are sober, so I know this isn’t the alcohol talking, and I promise I will say yes.” His eyes shone and he nodded, pulling me closer to him.

“I shall do that.” He replied, before closing his eyes and letting sleep take over. I chuckled, kissing the corner of his mouth.

“I love you, Matthias, and you better remember tonight in the morning.”

*The Next Morning*

I woke up the next morning, letting out a little yawn and going to stretch. I froze when I felt a body next to mine, before last night played back in my mind. Sure enough, Matthias’s arms were still wrapped around me, his head resting close to mine. I quickly and quietly climbed out of the bed, the Dane sleeping through all my movements. I looked around and spotted some paper and a pen at his desk, and wrote him a quick note saying that I was downstairs for breakfast. I kissed his forehead before following the smell of Tino’s cooking into the kitchen. Everyone else was already down there, and after greeting them I sat down to eat.

“So ____, how was Matthias last night? He wasn’t too much trouble, was he?” Tino asked and I smiled to myself, causing the four Nordics to raise their eyebrows. I felt my face redden, so I looked down trying to hide it.

“He wasn’t any trouble. For once in his life, he was quiet, and didn’t wake you all up. He was angelic.”

“Why are you red?” Emil asked, and I bit my lip, looking down.

“N-No reason…”

“He didn’t say anything to scare you or harass you, did he?” Lukas asked, and I quickly shook my head.

“No, of course not! He would never do that.”

“Leave the poor country alone.” Sweden finally mumbled, going back to looking at his newspaper. The others just shrugged. Emil and Lukas went back to arguing about ‘big brothers’ and Tino went back to cooking, leaving a comfortable silence in the kitchen. I looked down at my hands. Why am I such a bad actor? I hoped Matthias remembered last night… I didn’t want to tell him what happened in front of the others, which I would surely have to do if he came downstairs and memory-less.

Just as Tino was about to dish up the breakfast we heard a crash upstairs, before hurried footsteps raced through the house. We all looked up as Matthias shot into the kitchen and raced over to me, pulling me from my chair and swinging me around in the air. I shrieked and gripped onto his neck in fear of falling, not entirely sure what was going on. My brain couldn’t keep up this early in the morning.

“Did you mean what you said last night?” Matthias asked, setting me down on the floor but keeping his arms around me. His blue eyes held desperation and need in them, and I gently ran a hand through his messy hair.

“Yes, I did.” I replied softly, and he sighed, a smile falling on his face as he leant his forehead on mine, relaxing.

“I was scared you were just saying those things to keep me calm and quiet…”

“I’d never lie to you, not ever.” Matthias grinned, before leaning down and pressing his lips against mine. I closed my eyes and instinctively ran my hands through his hair, bringing the Dane closer. He happily obliged, his tongue entering my mouth and claiming it as his whilst his hands moved up and down my sides. I moaned softly, and the country moved back slightly, pressing our foreheads together again. I ran my hands from his hair to map out his features, resting them on his cheeks.

“I love you.” He whispered, kissing my nose.

“I love you to, Matthias.” I replied, pressing my lips against his again.

“Huh-hm.” I froze at the sound of someone clearing their throat, remembering that we were in company. Matthias seemed to realise this to, and an obnoxious grin lightened his features.

“Hey guys, THE KING OF NORTHERN EUROPE GOT THE GIRL!”

“Shut it, Dane.” Lukas muttered, not interested in the slightest.

“Oh, I’m so happy for you two!” Finland gushed, wrapping both of us in a hug. “You will make a lovely couple! And we won’t need to pick Matthias up from drunken nights out, right Swe?”

“Ja.” Sweden said, going back to breakfast. Emil muttered something that sounded like ‘good luck’ to me as he left the kitchen, and Matthias looked hurt for a second, before I leant up and kissed his cheek.

“You’re the one who needs the luck.” I said, taking his hand in mine. “C’mon, let’s deal with this hangover of yours.”

For the rest of the day, me and Matthias sat around in my room, Matthias trying to get over his hangover whilst I teased him and made the most of his vulnerable state. It was just like when we were friends, except there was something else in the air, something wonderful. I never wanted the day to end.
I haven't uploaded a Hetalia one in a while, partly because they aren't as good as my Supernatural ones but I've had this knocking about for a while, so I just thought I'd upload it while I had a bit of time.
